Have No Fear, For We Have Beer!

For all of you hopheads out there, don't despair- we love our beer here at Fine Spirits just as much as we love everything else! We've just gotten in some stellar new brews, including some really epic elixirs that are sure to knock your socks off. Don't believe us? Well, then, here are just a few of our new arrivals, listed in no particular order:

Green Flash Palate Smasher: Pours slightly hazy golden orange amber with a medium bubbly white head that left sticky lacing. Aroma of fresh citrusy and floral American hops and a touch of caramel malt sweetness. Flavor of aggressive piney hops, grapefruit and enough caramel malt to keep the hops just kind of in line. Certainly aggressively bitter. The flavor is intensely bitters, citrus (tangerines again), dried apricot and pine essence, with a dry sticky finish and just enough heft to coat your mouth and leave you eager for another sip. Definitely a beer made for the hopheads! 149 IBUs!

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA: Pours a deep golden orange with a finger of foam. Moderate carbonation stems from the center, good retention on the foam. Lacing is good, great looking beer. Smells of hops of course, some lemon and orange zest. Some floral pine melds with a touch of alcohol and a modest malt. Solid hoppy profile, balanced evenly with the malt. This is the #3 American IPA!

The Bruery Saison Rue: Belgian Style Ale Brewed With Rye and Brettanomyces. This rustic, deep golden California farmhouse ale is brewed just a few times a year to celebrate the change of the season. The Belgian yeast gives off banana and clove scents. The brett gives a bit of a funk. A bit of a pale bready smell as well as a hint of citrus. The taste has a slight brett funk, but not too much. Actually incredibly refreshing and smooth on the palate. A touch of banana and clove as well as lemon rind. Strong carbonation, medium body.

Those are just a few tasting notes on some of the more notable beers we've received lately. We also have Stone's Ruination IPA and standard IPA, Avery's Maharaja Imperial IPA, Brewery Ommegang's Abbey Ale, Brooklyn's Brown Ale, and lots of other amazing craft brews in stock and chilled for your enjoyment. Come in to pick up something new and exciting!

Folie a Deux et Vous!

At Folie à Deux, they think it’s ok to be a little crazy about wine. After all, their name means “a passion shared by two.” These flagship wines are crafted with a single-minded focus from some of Sonoma County’s finest appellations.
Russian River Chardonnay is Seductive, with complex aromas of honey, green apple, tropical fruits, vanilla and baking bread. Juicy apple, pineapple and tropical fruit flavors with light butter notes from partial malolactic fermentation and crisp balancing acidity finish this lush wine.
The Sonoma Merlot is crafted primarily from vineyards in the cooler portions of Alexander Valley. This deliciously approachable Merlot offers ripe, juicy, black cherry flavors complemented by enticing notes of vanilla, tea and cocoa.
The Sonoma Pinot Noir is deeply concentrated with intense aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry and raspberry followed by subtle hints of earthy truffle and spice. Precise and textured, this wine has dark, briary fruit, chocolate and notes of tobacco leaf on the palate. The finish is long and smooth, supporting a structured and lush body.

The Return of the Flaming Heart!

Here we go! The wildly popular Flaming Heart Series is back with one of the years most anticipated new blends. Coming from four of the official Scotch Malt regions, we all know that our dear friend Mr. Glaser tends to knock this out of the park. Serge Valentin, of WhiskyFun waxes rhapsodic, "Colour: dark straw. Nose: impeccable start, on a rather more refined peat than elsewhere (in youngish single malts) and touches of agave and cane juice on top of an elegant Laphroaigness. Beeswax and seawater, antiseptic and overripe apples, bandages and damp clay, Japanese green tea and linseed oil. Then fresh mint, lime, oysters and just touches of diesel oil. Lovely. Mouth: the first thing here is the strength. Sounds odd, but these 48.9% work extremely well. It’s big but approachable and, well, drinkable. Other than that, it’s a superb combination of pink grapefruits, shellfish, olive brine, marzipan, lemon, touches of fresh coriander, lemon balm, some kind of waxy citrons and plain green olives. Passion fruits, cough syrup, liquorice... It’s very smoky too. Finish: great as well because it remains elegant, zesty, even kind of ethereal despite all the oomph. Leaves your mouth a fresh as a baby’s!"

Bottled in August 2012, there are only 9,147 bottles in the entire world!

The return of a legend is priceless...but this bottling is only $99.99.

Prichard's Selections Now Available!

Benjamin Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey, 40% alcohol by volume, is barreled, aged, and hand bottled exclusively by Prichard's Distillery, Inc. in Kelso, Tennessee. Phil Prichard makes his Single Malt Whiskey in the Irish Whiskey style, uses more barley than rye to make the malt, and uses water from Teahollow Springs, a pristine water supply that also supplies the drinking water to the local area. Phil ages the whiskey in new oak barrels using a 3-millimeter alligator char, which is an aggressive char, and ages the whiskey until he feels that it is right.Tasting Notes: Benjamin Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey awakens the senses, first attracting the eye with its rich coppery color, followed by its aromatic sweet nose eliciting notes of honey, caramel, with soft toffee and butterscotch notes. A drop of water to release its potential, and the bouquets unfolds with spice notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice on the nose and palate, with honeyed sweetness, rounded toffee, vanilla, and a long, lingering finish.

Special select American Rye is used for this whiskey. This product is then distilled in copper pot stills and aged in small American oak barrels for the perfect balance of smoothness and flavors so desired. It has been bottled at 86 proof to achieve just the perfect taste in a Rye Whiskey. Straight out of the bottle, a pleasant aroma of field apples and light cinnamon spice approaches the nose without overpowering it.  The flavors of rich rye grains and an apple character reminiscent of calvados emerge initially, but the long finish develops into a sustained oaky vanilla experience.

This amazing Single Malt is $49.99, while the Rye is $47.99. Both are highly recommended!

Clyde May's Conecuh Ridge Whiskey

Clyde May’s Whiskey is an American spirit that captures the spirit of a real American. Clyde May, a World War II veteran, returned home to Alabama to farm his land and raise his family. Though Clyde reared eight children, his farming endeavors were not as successful. He turned to the illegal trade of whiskey-making, or “branch-farming” as he liked to call it, to help supplement his income. May sold much of his whiskey unaged, right from the still, but some he put down in barrels. He spent a large portion of his life perfecting the art of small batch whiskey-making and continued to experiment with different methods until he finally developed what came to be known as “Mr. Clyde’s Special Reserve.”

In 2002, Mr. May’s son, Kenny May, produced the first legal batch of his father’s whiskey and called it Clyde May’s Conecuh Ridge Alabama Fine Whiskey. Distribution was limited initially to Alabama and in 2004 Mr. May’s whiskey became the state’s official state spirit.

The whiskey’s mash bill consists of corn, rye and malted barley, and is a marriage of 5& 6 year old bourbon from Heaven Hill that was aged in new caramel-charred white oak barrels. Deep, glimmering bronze color with perfect clarity. The generous aromatics are loaded with rich caramel, dried orchard fruits, toffee, butterscotch, nutmeg, spicy rye notes, maple, and candied orange peel. The palate is harmonious and seamless. The flavor profile bursts open with dried fruits, sage and black pepper offering enough viscosity to give the whiskey length and depth. Silky finish  with a complex black pepper accent and hints of anise and toasted oak.

Anyone who shops with us regularly will know that Alabama has a special place around here, and this whiskey has a special price: $29.99!
