Treana- a California Classic!

The elements that go into Treana Red are aged 10-14 months in French oak, 65% of it new. In the summer after harvest, a trial blend of the best barrels of Cabernet and Syrah is created and then returned to barrel to marry the flavors- depth and power from the Cabernet and an inviting fleshiness from the Syrah. The wine comes back together in tank before bottling to complete the integration and allow for final fine-tuning. The result is a wine somewhere between Napa and Bordeaux, a full-throated, luxurious wine but one with finesse as well. “We walk the fine line all California winemakers walk,” says winemaker Austin Hope, “aiming for wine that’s not over the top, not all lushness, but with some grace and elegance.”

Ghost Block 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon

Finesse oriented with an elegant balance and structure, supported by bright aromas of roses, tobacco and spice. The attack is full on the palate with blackberries, cherries, cocoa, and cinnamon. The ripe mid palate ties together a long finish of cherries, caramel, spice, cassis and coffee.

92 points from Robert Parker, and here's what he had to say about this rare find:

"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a plump, radiant wine graced with exquisite red fruit flowers, spices and minerals. It reveals gorgeous fleshiness all the way through to the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."

Folie a Deux et Vous!

At Folie à Deux, they think it’s ok to be a little crazy about wine. After all, their name means “a passion shared by two.” These flagship wines are crafted with a single-minded focus from some of Sonoma County’s finest appellations.
Russian River Chardonnay is Seductive, with complex aromas of honey, green apple, tropical fruits, vanilla and baking bread. Juicy apple, pineapple and tropical fruit flavors with light butter notes from partial malolactic fermentation and crisp balancing acidity finish this lush wine.
The Sonoma Merlot is crafted primarily from vineyards in the cooler portions of Alexander Valley. This deliciously approachable Merlot offers ripe, juicy, black cherry flavors complemented by enticing notes of vanilla, tea and cocoa.
The Sonoma Pinot Noir is deeply concentrated with intense aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry and raspberry followed by subtle hints of earthy truffle and spice. A Trio of Powerful Reds from Robert Biale

Just in are the three most recent stunning releases from premier Napa valley producer, Robert Biale. 

 

First we have 2008's Like Father, Like Son: Syrah is the father, Petite Sirah is the son and a little dose of Zinfandel makes the two shine together in this profound and classic expression of Napa Valley red wine that just doesn’t quit. Napa Valley fruit expression, terroir, power and finesse at its best. Black cherry, warm raspberry, currants, plum, walnut husk, black tea, and graphite run wide and deep. $43.99  

 

Next up is the 2009 Basic Black: Deep, softly-layered, long and decadent. Raspberry, peach, blackberry flavors with walnut liqueur, and just-baked pastry aromas. Fine-grained texture, layered, elegant, finishing with nuances of espresso, licorice and warm stones. 

Basic Black is winemaker Steve Hall’s artfully assembled Biale blend from 2009. Beginning with Oak Knoll District Petite Sirah from the Biale home vineyard, the blend was layered with Barbera and Zinfandel from Napa, Syrah from Sonoma, then Grenache and Mourvedre from two “hidden jewel” vineyard blocks in El Dorado. 608 cases made. $36.99
